Portrayal of Cats as Horrible Creatures is Wrong

Cats feed off of your emotions and crave attention, just not in the same way dogs do. Just watch one episode and you will see what I mean: The owners are not paying enough attention to the cat, no play time, not adequate places to scratch, no cat tower for height, or even just the fact that the litter boxes are not taken care of or in the wrong spot! All of these above mentioned things are BASIC things that all cat owners should already know how to do. I will admit that there are those occasional episodes where it is a tricky case and it isn’t about the owners being shitty, but really needing assistance from someone to help guide them in how to handle a tricky cat.

I just cannot stand to watch a show that makes cats look to be horrible creatures when it isn’t their fault they are that way. It is our obligation upon adopting a cat to take care of them to the best of our abilities. This show just gets under my skin because it reminds me of how many people out there do not care about their cats – how many owners just think a cat is a thing that doesn’t need to be played with or loved. WRONG! But you already knew that!

Personally, I’d like to see this show cancelled but on the other hand, it is bringing awareness to other cat owners on how they SHOULD be handling their cats. So, in many ways, it’s like a double edge sword. I just wish that the stigma about cats being “nasty little creatures from hell” would go away instead of just glorifying it to make a TV show. I know I get enough personal flak from people for being a cat owner… and don’t even get me started on how pet stores give like 1/8th of their stores to cats but 1/2 to dogs. There are many products dedicated to just how to stop cats from spraying.
